LINE Internal Hackathon Event Visual Design

About the project

Designing a key visual within strict brand and system constraints.

This project was created for the LINE Internal Hackathon, an annual internal event that brings together product, engineering, and marketing teams to explore innovation and collaboration.
For this edition, the event theme was “Let’s GEM!”, with a strong focus on AI, creativity, and cross-team collaboration.

The key visual was developed under clearly defined design constraints, including a strictly black, white, and grayscale palette, while aligning with LINE’s internal visual and branding guidelines.

Challanges

Creating visual impact and meaning under heavy design restrictions.

With color removed as a design tool, the challenge was to communicate energy, innovation, and collaboration through structure, depth, and form alone.
The concept needed to translate abstract ideas such as AI, teamwork, and experimentation into a visual language that felt precise, intentional, and scalable.

At the same time, the design had to resonate across teams with different perspectives, balancing technical clarity with a sense of momentum and inspiration.

Concept

Transforming collaboration into a structure that shines.

The final visual centers on a gemstone constructed from layered triangular forms.
Each triangle represents an individual contributor or idea, and through overlap and alignment, these elements connect to form a unified, faceted gem that symbolizes collaboration as a collective outcome.

By using layered transparency and spatial depth, the gemstone appears to glow even within a grayscale system.
This approach reinforces the idea that when ideas come together, they can form something resilient, impactful, and visually striking, directly supporting the event slogan “Let’s GEM!”.
